Farangipet: The deceased are DAR head constable Gopla (52) who was driving, SP Dr Rao's wife Lakshmi (35) and her mother Shanti (53). Dr Rao's two children Sai Likhita (9) and Dipanshu (3) had a providential scrape through with minor injuries.

The official Toyota Qualis car was heading towards Mangalore and the diesel tanker was arriving from Mangalore. 

The locals and passers-by immediately ran to help and assisted in taking the injured to the hospital. But three lives could not be saved.

Bantwal rural police are investigating the case. The lorry driver and cleaner, seeing the gravity of the accident, are said to have immediately fled the place.

Wednesday, 6-30 pm

Farangipet / Mangalore, Oct 18: In a ghastly road accident that took place near Farangipet between Bantwal Cross Road and Mangalore around 4-30 pm on Wednesday, three persons are said to have died on the spot.

The collision occurred between Kodagu superintendent of police Dr Ramachandra Rao's official Qualis vehicle and a diesel tanker. The occupants were DAR constable P T Gopal, who was at the wheel, Dr Rao's wife and mother-in-law, who were killed in the collision, and two children.

Their names and age are not immediately available. The two children are also said to be seriously injured.

The impact of the collision was such that most part of the Qualis car is almost smashed and is in a mangled state.

Bantwal police circle inspector M K Ganapati confirmed to Daijiworld about three deaths. The bodies have been brought to the Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore. SP Dr Rao, upon receiving information at Madikeri, is rushing to Mangalore.
