Mangalore, Oct 25: A group of former child labourers who are presently studying under Bornfree Art School, Bangalore were on a ‘History Expedition’ to document the intensity of child labour in the nation.

On completion of this expedition, the Bornfree Art School Working Children Photo Exhibition Organising Committee will be organizing ‘exhibition of photography and painting of ‘History expedition” at St Aloysius College auditorium here between October 27 and 29.

According to a press release, the exhibition will contain the photos taken by former child labourers, through which they attempt to capture on film lives they once led. Students from Born Free Art School (a school for rehabilitated child labourers), Bangalore, traveled 4040 km through the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Goa last year, to study the lives of working children. The result of the expedition was 25,000 photographs and over 30 hours of film.

The exhibition will include photographs on the working conditions of child labourers captured by the Bornfree Art School children who were child labourers once upon a time.

The History Expedition (HEX) which started off on February 28 from Bangalore and has covered a distance of 4040 kms and have captured 25,000 pictures along with a history and information in 27 districts of Karnataka, Canacona of Goa and Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu.

A panel discussion on “Child labour free district?”, photo exhibition and live painting demonstrations by Bornfree Artists group, and an art workshop for children “Childrenise the world” by John Devaraj will also be held.
