'Algeria, Egypt face common security challenges'


Algiers, Oct 24 (IANS) Visiting Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has said Algeria and Egypt are facing common security challenges resulting from the critical situation prevailing in the Arab world.

"Egypt and Algeria are facing the same challenges which are resulting from the dangerous situation prevailing in the Middle East region, particularly in Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya," Xinhua quoted Shoukry as saying Thursday upon his meeting with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika in Algiers.

The Egyptian minister said he discussed with President Bouteflika bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them in different sectors.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived Thursday in Algiers at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra.

Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Shoukry's visit is an opportunity for both sides to evaluate the outcome of bilateral cooperation and work in the light of what has been accomplished so far.
