Mangaluru, Nov 22: Health minister U T Khadar on Saturday November 22 inaugurated the two-day 'Ayush Utsav' at Nehru Maidan here.

Addressing the gathering, Khadar said, "Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) doctors have a good future. Ayurveda is a contribution of our great sages and it is our responsibility to preserve it. Ayush should reach every home. Both Ayush and allopathy doctors should work hand in hand and compromise when necessary for the betterment of patients."

He further said, "In the coming days the government will emphasize on providing Ayush doctors and Ayush medicines in each primary healthcare center. The health department will be also initiating awareness programmes on Ayurveda medicines. The union government should also introduce the unique policy on Ayush medicines in all states and establish Ayush university in every state. Establishing universities will give scope for research.

"The health department will soon establish an Ayush university in the state. When doctors practice Ayurveda, people will also trust and come forward to opt for Ayurvedic medicines," he opined.

State minister for forests B Ramanath Rai said, "It is our duty to protect medicinal herbs which are on the verge of extinction. To protect the herbal and medicinal plants, the department has already planned to establish 'Ayushavana' in Padumale in the name of Koti-Chenayya's mother.

Giving his own example of weight loss through a daily two-hour exercise routine, Rai said "Exercise builds good health and increases life span."

He also urged Khadar to make sure that lives of areca and tobacco growers are not affected while bringing about new policies on their consumption.

Dr Vanitha Murali Kumar, president of Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) New Delhi said, "Ayush is a legalized, statutory body, with the right practice in India, and this is its biggest strength. The biggest hindrance for Ayush practitioners is demand for modern medicine. The next five will see an end to the antibiotics era. Antibiotics are going to be stopped."

She also said that Ayush medicines are going to western countries and bouncing back to India. "Presently, Ayurveda medicines are taken by a selected elite group of people. We will succeed when a common man approaches the practitioner. The state government should create awareness about Ayurveda medicines," she added.

On this occasion mayor Mahabala Marla, MLA J R Lobo, MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MLA Shakunthala Shetty, MLC Ivan D'Souza, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim Dr Sathyamurthy, president of KAUP board, Bengaluru, Dr Mohammed Iqbal, Dr B M Hegde, Dr Deviprasad Shetty, Dr Ashok Pai and others were present.

There is a misconception that Homeopathy, naturopathy etc is Indian systems. They are not. Both these are German and Unani is Graeco-persian. There is no evidence that Homeopathy works. The Govt. should promote only those systems which are known to work.

Yes many medicines are blind fold tested with placebo given group(some) also recovering without having any medicinal properties.
Faith Healing heals the same way. If we have faith in a particular doctor, just his touch to test us will heal half our ailments there itself.
The hormones are balanced if our mind is not under strain & when body secrets them properly then either our disease gets healed or prevents us from getting one.

Right approach to have Right To Health for ALL.
All have their own approaches & diagnostic methods & treatments with scientifically proven cures.
But those who practice one, should only prescribe medicines in their qualified field only.
The demand or present way of treating patients by Ayurvedic Doctors with allopathic medicines to get quick results should be discouraged.
At present many ayurvedic medicines contain mercury or preservatives to enhance their shelf life. Some get rejected as a result of having heavy metals & pesticides caused by in-organic cultivation & pollution spread by industrialization.
Some times the Pharmaceutical companies doesn't want competition which causes them to USE, FDA of their countries to reject the Ayurvedic medicines on one pretext or other.
The modern pharma companies will always want to treat symptoms than cure which puts them out of business if they do cure, in case of lifestyle diseases.
They can be prevented by proper diet & nutrition which the big pharma companies doesn't want as Vitamins & nutritious products cannot be patented as they are in nature. Instead they market synthetic products which fail to prevent or heal any lifestyle diseases.
They conduct research & would publicize they don't work with their synthetic vitamins or herbal extracts to discredit the Natural Alternatives which give hope & cure many disease without side effects of modern medicines.
All those who are scientifically proven must be encouraged & supported for the welfare of society which needs health at an affordable cost unlike present methods which have nexus with insurance companies to make money with their approach to heal proactively.

Good move the government to promote Ayush but how many will follow it only God knows. Now a days everybody has a belief in quick relief and hence rely on modern medicine and allopathy doctors. They don't realize the side effects, implications of the modern medicines and technology.Whereas in Ayurveda,Ayush, unani result is slow but permanent but the same is not being practiced properly and also been commercialized. Now everybody wants quick bucks/money but at the cost of the real and genuine seekers/patients.In true sense,if one wish to live peaceful life without spending money it,they have to practice Yoga, meditation and Pranayama daily. Most of your hidden diseases will be cured/vanished and you will be astonished about the result. But one must be dedicated and determined. It should not be like that one day you do yoga and the next day you go to the bar and have stomachful of alcohol.I assure you that daily practice of half an hour to one hour yoga combined with meditation and Pranayama, definitely you feel much better than before. This should be practiced under an expert.Best of luck to AYUSH,AYURVEDA,UNANI,HOMEOPATHY.Everybody should strive to save all the medicinal plants in their surroundings.
