Islamabad, Dec 9 (IANS): Amid protests and mourning, funeral prayers were offered for Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist Haq Nawaz, killed in a clash, in Punjab province's Faisalabad city Tuesday.

The PTI is headed by Imran Khan who along with his supporters has been staging protests since mid-August over alleged irregularities in the 2013 general election.

Haq Nawaz, 22, died of bullet injuries sustained during a violent clash of his party workers with police and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporters Monday, Dawn reported.

After Haq Nawaz's death, the PTI had given a call to stage protests while announcing a day of mourning across the country.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), led by Tahirul Qadri, has also announced it will join PTI's protest.

Following the death of Haq Nawaz, the agitated PTI workers had blocked Faisalabad's Aabpara Chowk and other major highways in different parts of Punjab.

In Karachi, party workers had blocked Sharah-i-Faisal, a main road connecting and leading to different areas of the port city, during peak traffic hours.

On Monday, PTI chief Imran Khan had called for a complete shut down of Faisalabad, the third largest city of Pakistan, as part of a plan to put pressure on the Nawaz Sharif-led government to carry out a vote recount of the May 2013 general election.
