Mangalore, Dec 4: The annual feast of Pratishtha Poornima of Shri Venkatramana Temple at Mulki here was held amidst tight police security on Monday December 4.

As reported earlier, curfew has been imposed in Mulki police station limits following incidents of violence during the funeral procession of BJP leader Sukhanand Shetty.  Two persons had died and four were injured after police opened firing to control unruly crowd that was bent on damaging police station.

Initially it was perceived that the feast will not be allowed owing to curfew.  But the administration had finally agreed to give permission and lift curfew between 9 am and 4 pm.  People were seen rushing to the shops to fetch necessary groceries during these hours.

On the hours, the feast remained pale with minimum participation.  Though none of the rituals and pujas were obstructed, the number of devotees was considerably less than other years.  If people used to throng in thousands earlier, this year only a few hundreds came to the temple for the feast.

Meanwhile curfew has been continued in the Mulki.  Police sources said that curfew has been extended upto 7 am on Tuesday December 5.
