Beltangady, Dec 8: The Italian national who was arrested last month in Dharmasthala on a charge of overstaying in the country without a valid visa was produced in court here again.
The man, whose name has been given by the police as Salavi Laurenzo, had reportedly toured all over India and had arrived in Dharmasthala in November. He was arrested on suspicion by the Beltangady police and had interrogated him. He was found to have no valid documents to stay in India. On production in court then, the court had ordered that he be released on bail only depositing a cash amount of Rs 1 lac as security.
As he had no means to pay such a large sum, the court has ordered further custody for him. The embassy of Italy has been given the details of his antecedents and the case. Their response is being awaited. Top police officials are said to be in touch with his hometown to gather more information about him.
