Udupi, Dec 10: The protest against the proposed Nagarjuna Power Project intensified further with a large number of people under the banner of Nagarjuna Virodhi Horata Samiti pledging to oppose the power plant irrespective of the political parties they support.
The oath was read out by fishermen leader Pramod Madhwaraj at a gathering of over 1000 fishermen convened by the Samiti and Mogaveera Mahajana Sabha at Mahalakshmi Temple in Ucchila here on Saturday December 9.
Addressing the crowd, Rashtriya Hindu Sene convener Pramod Muthalik said that he and the other members of the Samiti were ready to go to jail if needed.
He criticized Udupi district in-charge minister V S Acharya for not attending the meet and implored the people to boycott all programmes relating to Acharya henceforth.
Among those present were Udupi MP Manorama Madhwaraj, MLAs Raghupati Bhat, Abhayachandra Jain, MLC Pratapchandra Shetty and Congress leaders Vinaya Kumar Sorake, Gopal Poojary and Vasant Salian.
