Mangalore, Dec 12: Close on the heels of the death of an inmate of Kudmul Ranga Rao hostel, ten more girls belonging to the same hostel have been hospitalised following a bout of malaria.

The girls have been admitted to city Wenlock hospital. All of them are aged between 11 and 15 years, and are from families settled in other districts.

A delegation representing Karnataka Dalita Sangharsha Samiti, led by Ramesh Kotian, paid a visit to the hostel and found mosquitoes breeding in an overhead open tank.

Speaking to media persons here on Monday December 11, Kotian informed that the government had provided 4,500 mosquito nets to be given to families below poverty line and to the hostel inmates. But the nets are locked up in MCC office, and officials have been awaiting order from deputy commissioner Maheshwar Rao for distribution.

Recently, an inmate of the hostel had died due to malaria and the issue had evoked severe criticism from various corners.
