Mangalore, Dec 12: President of the state Saharda co-operative society Manohar Maski inaugurated a workshop for Dakshina Kannada District co-operative directors, CEOs and other officials here in Dakshina Kannada Agriculture Co-operative Society hall on December 12.
In his address he said, "The need of the hour is to make changes in the existing co-operative system which will be beneficial to all the co-operatives in the district". P B Diwakar Rai, president of Dakshina Kannada District Co-operative Society presided over the function.
Gurunath Jyantikar, general secretary of Karnataka state credit Co-operative Society, Bangalore, S R Sathish Chandra, director of Karnataka State Sawhardha Co-operative society, N S Gokhale, director of DK Cooperative Union, and P R Palangappa of department of cooperatives were also present.
Speaking to mediapersons earlier in the morning in the SCDC Co-operative Bank premises, Manohar Maski said that memorandum to the state government seeking status of public enterprise to the co-operative societies.
The prime requests are that the state government should accept the Vaidyanathan committee report and give priority to the co-operative ventures. There is a need for leadership in the cooperative sector where it is lacking now. A law should be implemented to the effect that anyone not ensuring profit for the cooperative within three years should be considered not qualified to hold the president's post in any co-operative society, he urged.
