  • Police are yet to achieve a breakthrough in the Charan Raj ‘kidnap’ case reported on November 12.

Puttur, Dec 14: When contacted, Superintendent of Police B Dayanand said that a police team from the district had been sent to Mysore and it was working on the case in association with the police there.

It may be recalled that Charan Raj, a native of Mysore and a student of St Philomena’s College in Puttur, about 65 km from here, was ‘kidnapped’ on November 12. According to the police, a person claiming to be Charan’s relative came to the hostel where he stayed and took him away. Charan is said to have told his companions that he was going out with his uncle, which indicated that he knew the person who had come to take him.

Ransom

The incident came to light only when the kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore for his release. However, the police said that they were not aware of the ransom demand. It is more than a month now, after the ‘kidnap’ and there is no call yet, either from the ‘kidnappers’ or from Charan.
