Udupi: Failure to give power connection - HC notice to DC

Udupi, Jan 9: The state high court, on Thursday January 8, ordered issuance of notice to the deputy commissioner (DC) of the district pertaining to a complaint about not giving power connection to houses located at Kannur near Cherkady village in the district till now.

This order was passed by a single judge bench of the HC presided over by Justice S Abdul Nazeer. Notices were also ordered to be served on panchayat development officer of Cherkady, president of Cherkady gram panchayat, and executive engineer of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company. This order was passed on a petition filed by a farmer from the area named Mahabala Nayak, who has complained that his repeated requests to provide power connection over the last 60 years were not met.

Nayak and several other villagers had applied for power connection both to Mescom and district administration several times during the last six decades, but the concerned had failed to accede to this request. Therefore, the petitioner had approached HC for relief.
