Mangaluru: Bus driver sentenced for causing passenger's death

Mangaluru, Jan 9: The second JMFC court here, through a judgment dated Thursday January 8, sentenced the driver of a bus to one year's imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 5,000. He was accused of causing the death of a woman passenger through reckless driving. The judgment was delivered by judge Roopashree Shetty.

The driver concerned has been identified as Pareekshit from Beltangady. On January 23, 2014, Mamata Amin, who was getting down at Chitrapura from a bus Pareekshit was driving, was killed as the bus moved ahead before she set foot on the road. As she tripped, rear wheels of the bus had crushed her to death.

After a complaint about the incident was registered in Suratkal station, station house officer, M A Nataraj, had investigated the case and filed charge sheet in the court. Public prosecutor, Chetan T Nayak, had presented the case on behalf of the prosecution.
