Doha, Dec 18: Doha Asian Games 800m silver medallist Santhi Soundarajan has been stripped off her medal after failing a gender test.
Doubts arose in the minds of officials and competitors after the 800m race in which she finished second, to win the silver.
From the details that have emerged from Doha, however, it appears that Indian officials knew about Santhi's status. It is not clearly known on what criteria she has failed the test.
There are also three reasons why she could have the benefit of doubt - genetic abnormality, chromosomal variation and differences in genetic makeup.
