Five new swine flu cases in Delhi


New Delhi, Jan 11 (IANS): Five new cases of swine flu were reported in the national capital Saturday, taking the total this season to 41, health officials said.

According to the health department, the new cases included 3 males and 2 females.

"The address of the first patient, a 44-year-old male has not been found till now. But the other two males are a 16-year-old boy from Prem Nagar and a 44-year-old from Mahavir Nagar," a senior official, who is also the nodal officer for swine flu cases told IANS.

"Among the two females are a 23-year-old from Ashok Nagar and a 35-year-old from Siddharth Enclave," he said.

Swine flu has already claimed five lives in Delhi.

Experts in the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) have said that the people staying near pig farms and slaughter houses should take special measures as they are the ones who are being affected the most.

"S.C.L. Das, Delhi health secretary, is in constant touch with the administration of every hospital and is reviewing the problem on a daily basis," said the senior official.
