Bengaluru, Jan 16: The attempt made by some miscreants to rob a bank in the city early morning on Thursday January 15 was foiled by a security guard.

It is said that at around 2.30 am on Thursday, three persons who came in a Maruti Omni vehicle tried to rob Veerashaiva Cooperative Bank located at Rajajinagar III block here. The security guard, Mani (60), who was sleeping in a small room meant for him, came out and confronted the miscreants who had opened the main door by using a duplicate key. The thieves hit his head with a rod, even as Mani tried to shoo them away with a stick.

Mani raised an alarm then. Hearing his shouts, a security guard on duty at Surfa Coats named Tulasiram, came nearby. Developing cold feet, the thieves abandoned their misadventure and took to their heels, said deputy police commissioner, T R Suresh.

Mani was then shifted to a hospital. The security agency immediately deputed another security guard, Nagesh (52), resident of Sunkadakatte here, in his place. Nagesh, who reported for duty early morning, suddenly collapsed when sitting on a chair, guarding the building. The doctors of a hospital where he was shifted said he had died of cardiac arrest when being taken there.
