Bangalore, Jan 3: The state government has decided to upgrade 65 taluk hospitals at a cost of Rs 162 crore, health minister R Ashok announced on Tuesday January 2.

Talking to reporters, he said 50-bedded taluk hospitals would be converted into 100-bedded ones. The funds, to be released within two weeks, would be utilised for constructing buildings, appointing staff and providing facilities.

The minister said the government had also decided to upgrade 42 primary health centres at a cost of Rs 62.20 crore. The government would recruit 2,000 doctors as part of this upgradation programme.
