by reciprocal arrangement with Star of Mysore

Mysore, Jan 10: We know about too many cooks spoiling the broth. Now, it is the handiwork of a single cook. An incident in which the cook who was hired for a wedding feast made it bitter for the newly-weds has come to light.

Jayapal, aged about 50 years and hailing from Gundlupet, was learnt to have created cracks in family relationships playing the role similar to Shakuni of Mahabharatha. He was working as a cook in weddings for the past over 10 years. It was his perverted mind that soured the relationships of the newlyweds, apparently being a sadist eager to bring about discord between the newly married.

He is learnt to have got into the habit of collecting wedding cards whenever he was engaged as a cook at weddings and then writing letters to the bride and even remitting money through Money-Order being certain that it would come to the knowledge of the groom and his family members. Thus, it created suspicion in the mind of the groom about his wife having lovers. The fact that she was also receiving Money-Order as well, poisoned their relationship.

The whole episode came to light when a newly married couple started getting this kind of fake letter and created deep concern among the friends of the groom who is a member of Friends Cricket Club, Devaraja Mohalla.

These letters of Jayapal addressed to this newly married couple had reached a stage that the marriage would have been on the rocks but for the timely intervention of some members of Friends Cricket Club.

Club Members Ramu, Vishwanath, Nandish, Vinay Pai, Lingaraja, Shekhar, Srinivas and others who had total confidence in the bride's unblemished character, began looking for the source of the mischief. The letters that the brides received carried the address: "Jayapal, No. 845, BB Garden Road, Mysore," printed with a rubber stamp. The address proved fake. Later, when the search continued for Jayapal, it was discovered that a cook who worked at the wedding feasts was having the same name.

At last the Club members, got suspicious of a cook by name Jayapal and found him on the steps of Rajkamal Talkies yesterday morning. Following some thrashing, Jayapal narrated a few instances of his mischief. When his bag was examined, some letters written in obscene language, money order forms, post office receipts and wedding invitations were found.

They have subsequently taken Jayapal to the homes of couples whose relations had got soured due to his mischief and restored peace after explaining his role as the cause for cracks in the family. A considerable number of couples are learnt to have broken up because of the perverted action of Jayapal.

Although he hails from Gundlupet, he is not letting anybody know about his correct address and seems to be a person care-of-footpath. He has no feelings of remorse about his criminal acts nor any fear of being sent behind the bars. He has been handed over to Devaraja Police Station, Ramu, a Club member, told Star of Mysore. Devaraja Police are investigating.

Case against Jayapal registered, released

The Devaraja Police have registered a case against Jayapal, who allegedly wrote letters to the newly-weds with cooked up stories, and released him last evening issuing a notice to him to appear before the Court tomorrow.

The Police sources today said that his was a non-cognisable offence and he need not secure bail in this case.

The case was registered based on a complaint by one Srinivas of Hunsur, one of the victims.

Jayapal was later sent away along with head cook Srinivas, who had come to Police Station to take him
