Mysore, Jan 12: Chandrashekar Kukkikatte (59), editor of Sankranti Kannada daily eveninger, died in the wee hours of Thursday January 11 following a cardiac arrest. He had been admitted to JSS Hospital a few days ago following heart problem. His end came at 2 am. He is survived by his wife Lalitha Kukkikatte.
A large number of readers, admirers and political leaders visited his office on Ramanuja Road where his mortal remains were kept and paid their last respects till 1.30 pm.
Cremation took place in the afternoon on Thursday.

Born on 28th Sept. 1947 in Karkala, Udupi District, Sankranti Editor Chandrashekhar Kukkikatte had his education in Kukkikatte and Udupi.
He came to Mysore about 40 years ago and started hotel business. He later entered the film-world as a dialogue writer, actor and assistant director along with Hunsur Krishnamurthy, Puttanna Kanagal, Aroor Pattabhi, R.N. Jayagopal, Vadiraj and others.
He had written dialogues for eight Tulu films. He had independently directed the Tulu film Nyayagad enna baduku and Kannada film Raithana Raktha.
The serial Balligondu Aasare of the deceased had been telecast by Doordarshan.
He took over Sankranti in 1985 and had written more than 1,500 editorials. He received the Karnataka Madhyama Akademi Award in 2004. Kukkikatte was the Working President, Vice-President and Secretary of Mysore District Journalists Association (MDJA) during different periods.
More than 30 humourous radio-plays written by late Kukkikatte had been broadcast by Akashvani.
Ex-Ministers H. Vishwanath and H.S. Mahadeva Prasad, ex-MLA A. Ramdas, ex-MLC G. Madhusudan, former Chairman of Karnataka Exhibition Authority R. Raghu, Zilla Panchayat Vice-President K. Marigowda and a large circle of his friends and well-wishers paid their last respects at the office of the newspaper.
Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and JD(S) spokesperson Y.S.V. Datta have condoled the death of Chandrashekara Kukkikatte.
Members of MDJA met at Pathrakarthara Bhavan this morning and observed two minutes' silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
