Mangalore, Jan 12: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Jayashrikrishna Parisara Premi Samiti and Nagarjuna Power Company Limited (NPCL) on areas related to use of advanced technology and emission control.

This was announced by Samiti founder Jaya Krishna Shetty at a press conference held here on Thursday January 11.

He further said that the company has agreed to use FGD technology at the plant and assured that the harm to the environment will be nil as the company will use fly ash to make bricks. The company plans to ask Nandikur Janajagruti Samiti, which has been protesting against the set up of the plant, to supply the fly ash.

Regarding job opportunities, he said that NPCL will employ 60 per cent of the people from the local population.

However, he did not have any document related to the MoU but promised to release the same to the press at a later stage.

Shetty welcomed the installation of the power plant and termed it as a boon to the industrial and economic growth of the district.

He also alleged that Nandikur Janajagruti Samiti and members of the Mogaveera community were misleading the public.
