Udupi, Jan 17: The two-day round table conference on India-Kuwait relations organised by the department of Geopolitics, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) at the college campus came to an end on Tuesday January 16.

Speaking to press persons here after attending the conference, Mohammed Al-Badah, director of information, Embassy of Kuwait, New Delhi, said that Kuwait was keen to improve ties with India and hinted at a future collaboration with MAHE.

He further said that Kuwait has emerged as one of the important international partners with India with ties with JNU, Delhi University and Jamia Milia Islamia.

MAHE pro-chancellor, speaking to reporters, said that MAHE will henceforth be known by a new name Manipal University. The new name will apply to all the campuses including those in Nepal, UAE and Malaysia.

Elaborating on the change of name, Ballal said that, because the tag of ‘university’ was missing, the former name used to create confusion and ambiguity especially among the foreign students. Hence the name has been changed to Manipal University.

There was an exhibition of books and photographs on Kuwait on the occasion. Several delegates like Nurusabba Garg of the Embassy of Kuwait, New Delhi, counter-terrorism expert B Raman, Confederation of Indian Industry, New Delhi chief advisor Prof Y S Rajan, A N Roy of Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi, Manipal University vice-chancellor Dr Raj Warrier and others were present.
