Mangalore, Jan 20: The beach festival was a spectacle of fun and frolic added with a vibrant display of colours and huge record-breaking sand sculpture.

The three-day festival, which was inaugurated by Suratkal MLA Krishna Palemar on Friday January 19 evening, offers a host of treats like camel rides, food festival, boating and sports events like swimming and parasailing.

The major attractions are the kite festival in which Team Mangalore and teams from various parts of the world will participate and the 198-feet long sand sculpture of Kumbhakarna by Orissa-based sculptor Pramod Patnaik.

The kite festival which was inaugurated by MCC commissioner Krishnappa Poojary, will be open from 3 pm to 6 pm during the course of the event.

Vijaya Arun inaugurated the sand sculpture on the occasion. Sculpted by Pramod Patnaik with the help of Hrishikesh, Prakash and Rajesh, the sculpture cost about 3.75 lac. It is the longest sand sculpture in the country.

Yogish Bhat inaugurated the food festival. He also felicitated Pramod Patnaik on the occasion.
