Mangalore, Jan 22: Mangalorean Venissa T D’Souza won the title of best woman player in the state-level rapid chess tournament organised by Kanara District Chess Association held here recently.

Stany J A of Shimoga bagged the top place while Shivanand B S of Sagar came second. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth places were won by Tejas Kumar of Mysore, Shriram Sarja, Ganesh Kaushik of Mysore and Arvind Shastri of Bangalore, respectively.

Tulasi of Mysore and Mangalorean Rahul Peter won the first and second places respectively in the under-7 category, while in the under-9 category, Sathwik of Bangalore and Anantharam R U of Mangalore bagged the top two spots.

The first and second places in the under-11 category were secured by Shalon J Pais of Mangalore and Prem Appachu respectively, while in the under-15 category, Srishti J Shetty of Shimoga and Vivekananda of Mysore emerged winners.

The first and second places in the under-17 category were bagged by Suraj M of Bangalore and Krishnan Gangolly of Shimoga, respectively.

S M Bhagwath was presented with the best senior award.
