Mangalore, Jan 22: A mechanic working in a service station in Manipal near here was killed in a road accident at Barkur near Brahmavar here on Sunday January 21 afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Babanna Shettigar. He was on his way to Mandarthi riding his mobike along with his friend Sathish Kumar when a lorry hit them at Barkur. The impact of the accident was so much that the bike was pulled along the road by the lorry for a long distance, said some eyewitnesses.
As a result both Babanna and Sathish sustained serious injuries. Though both of them were rushed to a nearby hospital, the former breathed his last on the way. Sathish is being treated in a hospital and the doctors have said that he is out of danger.
The Brahmavar police have registered a case in this regard.
