Mangalore, Jan 22: "The IT and hospitality sector has noted the city as one of the best regions to invest in and hence many of the well-known names of these industries have come forward to invest in the city," said Katta Subrahmanya Naidu, state minister of small and large industries.

He was speaking after the "Investors Meet" held at Hotel Taj Manjarun here on Monday January 22 morning.  He said that the major investors from IT and hospitality sectors have come forward to invest in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada.  He further said that IT giants such as Wipro, Infosys, TCS along with hospitability sector majors such as Maurya Group, RN Shetty Group have come forward to invest in big numbers and create employment opportunities.

He further briefed about the requirements as well as the investments of some of the major companies.  Accordingly Infosys has come forward to invest Rs 1,800 in order to create 15,000 employment opportunities.  It has made a demand of 100 acres of land to set up its base.  TCS, another IT major has made a request with the government to provide them 100 acres of land to set up its base. The company would invest Rs 640 crore and create 20,000 employment opportunities.

There is also an offer of setting up Mangalore Internet City on a 50 acres campus investing Rs 150 crore in order to create 10,000 employment opportunities.

Leela Group of Hotels has come forward to invest Rs 358 crore in 75 acres of land. The group has promised to create 5,000 job opportunities.

The minister said that in all 14 companies have come forward to estblish their base in the district.  They have asked for 430 acres of land.  Their total investment would amount to Rs 3,301 crore and a total of 67,000 employment opportunities are in the pipeline.
