Mangalore, Jan 23: Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ONGC Ltd and the state government. The MoU outlines the proposal made by ONGC for investment in the state.

A press release issued by KCCI stated that ONGC intends to put up an LNG terminal within the NMPT premises here for import of around 10-12 MTPA of liquefied natural gas and facilities for downstream extraction of C-2, C-3 fractions. The proposal also involves setting up of a 1500 MW gas-based power plant by ONGC using lean gas, within the SEZ/NMPT premises.

The release further stated that ONGC also intends to lay a gas pipeline on Mangalore-Hassan-Bangalore-Chennai route, using the existing ROW available in MHBPL pipeline.

With this regard, ONGC/ MRPL has suggested measures like convening high level meeting for the assessing the requirement of infrastructure for the speedy installation of gas handling facility, preparatory arrangements with appropriate initaivatives for reception of gas at Bangalore, comfort arrangements for MRPL/ONGC to make long term supply arrangements at the appropriate pricing from their sources abroad.

The project is expected to solve a host of problems facing the state at present, the release stated.
