Mangalore, Jan 24: In a bizarre incident four Indian Naval Service (INS) personnel were arrested by Panambur police for their involvement in a drunken brawl near NMPT here on Monday January 22 night.

Naval petty officer B S Yadav, LMV Grade officer Vinod Kumar, light mechanical engineer Nanjar and radio operator Suresh were arrested and produced before the court on Tuesday.  The court released them on bail and assurance provided by captain of INS DLSS ship anchored at NMPT.

The foursome in a drunken state on Monday night had stopped a lorry carrying urea to Udupi near KK Gate at Panambur.  They asked the driver to turn the lorry and take them to Kulur.  When the driver did not agree, the foursome assaulted him.  They even threatened him and fellow drivers who had come for his rescue that they would take stern action against them.  The four INS men told them that they were CBI officers.

This brawl on the main road caused a minor traffic jam which in turn brought the Panambur police to the spot.  But the Naval men even threatened Panambur police inspector.    However, he arrested them.  Despite request from their captain the four were not released.  They were produced before the court on Tuesday.
