Mangalore, Jan 25: In order to support and encourage Konkani artistes, playwrights and plays, the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will hold Konkani Natakotsav (Konkani play fest) from Saturday January 27 to Sunday February 11.

The academy has chosen 4 best Konkani dramas to stage at 6 different places in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.  The fest will be inaugurated at 6.30 pm on Saturday January 27 in the Taccode Church premises.  Catholic Sabha president Andrew Noronha will inaugurate the fest.  Taccode Church parish priest Fr Hilary Lobo and Taccode Church parish council vice-president Gregory Mendes will be the guests of honour on the occasion.

Noted drama troupe "Asal Kalakar" from the city will enact superhit Konkani drama "Bongo" on the occasion.  On Sunday January 28 another well-known Konkani drama "Aput Ankwar" written by J B D'Souza and directed by Geo D'Silva Agrar will be staged at Alangar by ICYM Loretto chapter.  On Saturday February 4 Maandd Sobhann children's troupe will present "Pinjrea Iskol" drama (originally written in Kannada by B V Karant and translated to Konkani by Rony Crasta Kelrai and directed by Ivan D'Silva in Puttur Church premises at 6 pm.  The same drama will once again be enacted at Pamboor Church grounds on Sunday February 4.

Bongo play will be staged for the second time during the fest at Anugraha Auditorium of Modankap on Saturday January February 10 evening at 6.30.  "Kalakar" (originally written in Tulu by K N Tailor and translated to Konkani and directed by Felix Saldanha) will be presented by 'Derebailche Kalakar' at SVS Temple English Medium School Bantwal on Sunday February 11 at 7 pm.

The valedictory of the fest will be held on Sunday Februarty 11 at SVS Temple English Medium School Bantwal.  Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president K Sitaram Kulal will be the chief guest on the occasion while young entrepreneur Pius L Rodrigues, SVS school correspondent A Damodar Prabhu and SCDCC bank managing director P Narayana Kamath will grace the occasion as guests of honour.
