Udupi, Jan 25: To attract industries which cause less replacement, less polluting and job oriented in to Udupi district, a special task force under the chairmanship of Brahmavar MLA K Jayaprakash Hegde has been formed.

Announcing at a press conference, Udupi District-In-charge Minister Dr V S Acharya said the task force would study and suggest a suitable land for an airport in Udupi district.

He reminded that it has been a government approved policy that every district should have an airport. “There is potential for software, automobile and textile industries in the district.

There has been a demand from the software companies like Infosys, who have agreed to set up their facilities in Udupi district and provide employment for as many as 5000 software professionals.

An airstrip in the district can easily attract investments,” Dr Acharya added. The Task Force would consist of Deputy Commissioner as its convener, Deputy Director of Industries as joint secretary and all the MLAs and MLCs of the district as members.

The Task Force would submit its report to the District-In-charge Minister in another three months, he said.
