Mangalore, Jan 27: As religious heads and nutritional experts debate the pros and cons of including eggs in the Government's mid-day meal scheme, the district division of Campaign Against Child Labour (CACL) has decided to find out what children want.
Convener of the unit Renny D'Souza said that CACL members, in collaboration with those of School Development Monitoring Committees (SDMCs), would collect information from primary school kids as to whether or not they wanted eggs in the meal. The findings would be forwarded to the Chief Minister within a week, he told The Hindu. The organisation also planned to hold an expert committee meeting to compare the nutritional value of eggs and milk. At a preliminary meeting, some doctors had been of the opinion that milk might not be suitable for all children, he said.
Mr. D'Souza said the final decision on the matter should not be influenced by religious or political considerations.
In a press release, the organisation termed the decision to revoke the introduction of eggs as unfortunate.
