Mangalore, Feb 6: The district unit of the Village Assistants Association demanded the regularisation of posts while staging a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s officer here on Monday February 5.

Speaking on the occasion, association president Chandrashekar Shettigar said that though the village assistants had many duties to perform like issuing and collecting revenue, registering births and deaths, election and census duties and several others, the employees were paid a meagre salary of Rs 100-2,000 per month.

Moreover, their services were not regularised and despite the courts passing orders in their favour, the government has taken no interest in the issues, he said.

The association also plans to hold a protest on Monday February 12 in Bangalore.
