Mangalore, Feb 6: The ‘Suvarna Saksharatha Kala Jaatha,’ a programme to create awareness on the importance of education among the rural mass, was inaugurated at the taluk panchayat premises here on Monday February 5.
The programme was inaugurated by taluk panchayat president Ranganath Shetty.
Lokashikshana Adhikari Sadashivayya informed that the jatha will lay special emphasis on gram panchayats and try to cover all the GPs in two months. Each day, about 15 gram panchayats will be covered under the programme, he said.
The jatha, which began at all centres across the state, will travel to all parts of the district to create awareness on the need for educating oneself and one’s family.
The jatha team comprises of 12 members who will use media like street plays and songs to create awareness.
Among those present were Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor, ZP chief accountant officer Thimappa, taluk panchayat executive officer Kantharaj and information department assistant director Rohini.
