Udupi, Mar 30: A rape attempt on a minor girl was foiled by alert local people in kalya near Kaup on Saturday evening. The locals also caught hold of one of the accused while another managed to flee from the scene.

Hajrat Ali (22) originally from Haveri is the person arrested.

As per details,Hajrat Ali worked as a helper with a supervisor. He used to visit the house of his supervisor every often and started talking freely with his supervisor's daughter who is studying in ninth standard. On Saturday evening, he sent a mobile message to the girl and called her out. Then he took her to a field half a kilometre from the house with the help of Siddappa, his friend.

The locals who always suspected the behaviour of Hajrat Ali followed him and foiled his attempt. They managed to catch Hajrat Ali and handed over him to the police while Siddappa managed to run away.

Police have registered the case under Pocso act.
