Mumbai, Apr 9: Rons Bantwal, chief of Daijiworld Mumbai bureau, is among the 34 journalists who have been chosen for Karnataka Media Academy Awards for the year 2014.
The Awards will be present by chief minister Siddaramaiah on April 16 at a ceremony to be held at the Vidhana Soudha.
Mumbai-based Rons Bantwal, who has been in the field of journalism for 25 years, is also a contributor to several Kannada and English dailies and periodicals. He is the editor of Mumbai edition of Delhivarthe Kannada Daily.
Rons, who holds a degree in civil engineering, went to Mumbai in search of greener pastures and began his career as a cartoonist, and thereafter came into journalism in Mumbai through Konkani weekly magazine 'Raknno', and gradually became the Mumbai chief of Kannada daily 'Janavahini'. He is also engaged in social work, especially in helping Kannadigas in Mumbai.
Rons is the founder and honorary chief secretary of Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangha, Maharashtra and has published ‘Diary-Directory’ under his editorship in the past 3 years. He also plans to build a Journalists' Bhavan at a cost of approximately Rs 3 crore near Santacruz airport. He is an active participant in more than 30 associations in the city.
He has received many awards, including ‘Konkani Excellent Award’ from Konkani Sahitya Kala Foundation, ‘Divo Konkani Sahitya Puraskar-2007’ from Divo Konkani weekly magazine, felicitation with gold medal by Kannada department of Mumbai University, ‘Abhimani Patrakarta’ award from Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy, Bengaluru and Shafi Welfare Association Mumbai, ‘Vishwa Kannada Rajyotsava Prashasti’ international award at Bahrain, ‘Parivarthana Patrakartha Puraskar’ international award from Parivarthana Prathishtan Mumbai association, ‘Sarvotkrishta Abhimani Vishwa Kannadiga’ award on the 43rd anniversary of Kannada Rajyotsava at Maloor of Kolar, ‘Sadhaka Patrakartha’ national award at Surat of Gujarat and he has also been felicitated by conferring ‘Best Indian Journalist’ award in the presence of Siddaganga Math’s Sri Dr Shivakumar Mahaswamiji and the then chief minister of Karnataka Jagadish Shettar at the 65th conference of working journalists of India, organized by Karnataka Union of Working Journalists, ‘Patrakar Ratna’ award from Navachintana association, and Decade’s Hoogara Memorial Media Award on Press Day celebration-2014 in Bengaluru by Patrakartara Vedike, Bengaluru. He was felicitated the 19th Dakshina Kannada Kannada Sahitya Sammelana at Polali Shree Kshetra of Bantwal.
