Udupi / Bangalore, Mar 5: Former well-known national-level athlete Ulepadi Krishna Shetty (71) passed away on Sunday, following a brief illness.

Hailing from the Kodaman family, he is survived by wife and three Bangalore-based entrepreneur sons, Vinod, Deepak and Amar.

He had served as group manager in Brooke Bond-owned Tea Estate India. He too owned coffee estates in Hassan and Kodagu.

As a national-level athlete, he had represented India in the Colombo Games in the Long Jump event.

Speaking to Daijiworld on phone from their Raheja G Block apartment in Koramangala, Bangalore, his second son Deepak said his father had worked for Brooke Bond's tea estates for 16 years and had taken part in national sports events like Long Jump, 400 metres and 200 metres run events in 1950's and 1960's.

His last rites will be held in Wilson Gardens crematorium at 10-00 am on Monday, March 5.
