Bengaluru, Apr 13: Karnataka will be establishing a modern public gallery on the banks of the river Cauvery at Mysuru on the lines of Ganga Gallery at Allahabad and Brahmaputra Gallery at Guwahati.

The proposed gallery would be set up with the support of the National Academy of Sciences of India (NASI).

NASI would run it for first three years, train local personnel and then hand it over to the government or to any agency identified by the government, according to Karnataka’s Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande.

Deshpande, who chaired a meeting of experts on the proposed gallery two days ago, had suggested to the officials of Tourism and Higher Education departments to identify a suitable location/building in Mysuru for the gallery.

The gallery is expected to take nine months to complete. A building with 10,000 sqft with ample space for parking would be identified.

The gallery would display maps, large photographs, and sculptures indicating different activities related to the river Cauvery.

It would contain a library with literatures on the origin, geological distribution, flow of water through to states, biological properties, bio-diversity and endangered species, cultural and social characteristics of the river.

The gallery would become a pride of Karnataka and a centre of attraction to people visiting Mysuru, an official said. It would serve as the learning centre for students.

The gallery will have detailed satellite images, multi-media displays and digital video-shows.

Manju Sharma, former president, NASI, who attended the meeting, said NASI has already set up Ganga Gallery at Allahabad and Brahmaputra Gallery at Guwahati.
