New Delhi, April 22 (IANS): After the leadership team at the Reliance Group opted out of cooking gas subsidy, chairman Anil Ambani has appealed to all the employees, who can afford it, to also give up the dole and instead buy the fuel at market prices.

“Our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi has undertaken several impactful steps to promote a more inclusive and equitable quality of life for all sections of the society," Ambani said a letter to all employees.

"One such initiative is 'Give it Up', through which government is urging the economically well-to-do sections of the society to voluntarily give up use of subsidized LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) and buy at market prices,” Ambani wrote to the group employees.

"As a mark of solidarity to this noble initiative, the leadership team of Reliance Group has already opted out of LPG subsidy. We would like to appeal to all our colleagues, who can afford to do so, to voluntarily join this movement and contribute to the cause of nation building."

Ambani said this was an opportunity for members of the group to make a contribution towards energy conservation, social equitability and improved utilisation of scarce natural resources.

Earlier, the Reliance Group chairman was among the first to join Modi's "Swachh Bharat" campaign -- a deed for which the prime minister was all praise and tweeted: "Wonderful effort by Anil Ambani, who cleaned the area around Churchgate Station in Mumbai along with his friends."

Ambani was among the nine celebrities, including cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar and film stars Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra, who were first invited by Modi to take the clean India initiative forward.
