Bengaluru, May 11 (DHNS): The Harohalli police on Sunday arrested five persons for the gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl in Maralwadi village of Kanakapura taluk on Friday.
According to the police, the arrested are Devraju, Siddaraju, Manjunatha, Muthuraju and Prashanth. They are all residents of Maralwadi and are autorickshaw and lorry drivers. They are aged between 25 and 30 years, except Prashanth, who is 19-years-old.
The minor girl had come to Kanakapura in search of a job. She was working for a commercial establishment in Mysuru, but lost the job as her employe sufferred losses. Some one known to the victim told her that she would get plenty of jobs in Kanakapura, said the police.
On May 7, she left Mysuru and went to Kanakapura looking for a job.
On May 8, she went towards Maralwadi, where Siddaraju, an autorickshaw driver befriended her and told her that he would help her get a job, said the police.
A senior police officer said, "He took her in his autorickshaw to a dried up water canal near Maralwadi and called up his friends, asking them to come near the canal.
The victim noticed four persons approaching them and thought they were helping her get a job. But they dragged her into the canal and took turns to rape her except Prashanth, who stood watching. The accused fled the spot after the girl fell unconscious."
"On May 9, people found the girl sitting near the Kanakapura bus stop, crying. When asked she narrated the incident. People took her to the police station and a complaint was filed. The victim was subjected to a medical examination," said the officer.
