Mangalore, Mar 28: State chief minister H D Kumaraswamy flew into the city on Tuesday morning unscheduled and thereby surprised the bureaucratic, police and political circles here.

As he landed at the Bajpe airport by Jet Airways flight around 9-00 am, minister Shivanand Naik, district's deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao, additional superintendent of police Lokesh Kumar, Suratkal MLA J Krishna Palemar and others who were present at the airport were taken unawares.

Neither the district authorities like the DC or the SP nor any political circles nor the media community had any advance wind of his visit. His sudden airdash has already added fuel to the rumours already making rounds in the city about a popular leading lady of Sandalwood world having been admitted to a major hospital here. The film star was the target of an income tax raid recently, for reason of having acquired a multi-crore house in a posh residential colony in Bangalore.

Kumaraswamy is said to have left his personal assistant and the police officials aside and sped away in a private vehicle all alone to an undisclosed destination, said sources. Rumours started floating around that he had come to visit the film artiste under treatment in the hospital.

However, different stories are being heard in different circles. Informed sources said he had rushed to Arikkady near Kumble in Kerala to take part in a 'hawan' (yajna) being held there on his family's behalf.

His father, former prime minister and JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda is said to have already been camping in Kerala to take part in some special 'hawans' and pujas to brighten his party's election prospects.

Another version said he went to visit an astrologer in Kilpady, Mulki, who is close to highly-placed persons and celebrities.

Police sources told this correspondent in confidence that Kumaraswamy was to fly back to Bangalore by the evening flight at five, but did not turn up. Hence he would travel by car overnight to Bangalore or if delayed could fly back on Wednesday morning.
