Bujumbura, May 20 (IANS): Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza on Tuesday signed a decree convening both chambers of the country's parliament to attend an extraordinary session on May 20-21.

The decree did not however say why the two-day parliamentary session was convened.

The session has been convened after Nkurunziza replaced on Monday three ministers including the defence minister, the foreign minister and the commerce minister.

The Burundian constitution provides that a government minister officially starts working after taking his oath before the country's president and the parliament.

Emmanuel Ntahomvukiye, a civilian, is the new defence minister in replacement of Major General Pontien Gaciyubwenge, according to Xinhua.

Alain Aime Nyamitwe replaces Laurent Kavakure at the foreign ministry.

Irina Inantore has become the new minister for commerce, replacing Marie Rose Nizigiyimana.

The slight government reshuffle came after a failed coup plot against the president's bid for the third term by former intelligence head Godefroid Niyombare who has not yet been arrested.
