Mysore, Apr 7: An Indian lady doctor serving in gulf is on the verge of losing her job after serving 20 years, as her MD degree has not been recognised by Medical Council of India (MCI).

After exhausting all options, Dr. H.J. Gayathri Devi, 49, has now moved the Karnataka High Court seeking justice.

A resident of Bangalore, Dr. Gayathri Devi took her MD (Tuberculosis and Chest Disease) degree in 1990 from Mysore Medical College.

After getting married to one Dr. Koshy, she left for gulf and took a job at Al-Ahil Hospital at Abu Dhabi (UAE).

Her problem began when the new king took over Abu Dhabi after his father's death.

The new king ordered a thorough verification of all those coming from outside. It was during this exercise, that it came to light that Dr. Gayathri Devi's degree was not valid in the UAE as the degree had no recognition of MCI.

One fine morning, her employer summoned Dr. Gayathri Devi and told her that her services would be terminated unless she produced a certificate showing that her degree is recognised by MCI.

The doctor was shocked on realising that all these years she was working on a unrecognised degree.

She wrote to the Mysore University officials, who for warded her letter to the MCI, which confirmed that the degree was not recognised.

While communicating the matter to Dr. Gayathri Devi, the University said that it had requested the MCI to recognise the degree.
