Udupi, Apr 8: The "Sona Sambhram Baila Show" which began in a spectacular fashion was indeed a fantastic display of Konkani culture and music. All pains taken by the organizers to stage this mega show at Brahmavar would surely inspire many associations and organizations to hold such shows and promote Konkani in the region.
Mandd Sobhann indeed served a delicious recipe of music and culture to the audience who had come in big numbers on Easter Sunday evening to Makkala Mantapa. Some of the fabulous and famous Konkani numbers such as 'Shendo', 'Vhoda Shez mojhe', 'Axi Sopnnam Axi Jinn', 'Xirandicho Pavs' etc kept the audience glued to their seats to the end.
Mandd Sobhann troupe consisting of Eric Ozario, Joyce Ozario, Prakash D'Souza, Zeena Pereira, Felix Lasrado took the audience to domain of melodious singing. Naach Sobhann troupe once again left no stone unturned to entertain the entire gathering. Under the leadership of Avil D'Cruz they presented a fine show of traditional dance to foot-tapping Konkani numbers.
Humour artistes are always an asset. It is they who keep a perfect balance of total entertainment with their jokes. The group comprising of Alwyn, Blaizy, Divya and Navin Lobo were at their best throughout the show. Their rib-tickling comedy skits were well-appreciated by each and everyone present. Musicians Roshan D'Souza, Sunil Kumar, Umesh Idya, Lionel D'Mello, Derick D'Souza, Melwyn Fernandes, Norbert Gonsalves and Damodar Kumble gave a fine display of their talents with their rhythmic background music.
In all it was a perfect show of total Konkani entertainment for over two and half hours. The traditional songs such as 'Adkulogo Budkulo', 'Rozline Mojha Mogachen', 'Paizaneacho Naad' and others received a thunderous applause from the spectators who witnessed one of the rarest Konkani shows in the vicinity. It was a great Easter day entertainment to the gathering.
Stany Alvares as usual was at his best in compering and proved an able link between songs, dances and comedy skits. The show concluded non-stop baila, a perfect ending to a entertainment-packed evening.
Baila Show at Brahmavar Begins with a Bang
Udupi/Brahmavar, Apr 8: Mandd Sobhann under the stewardship of Eric Ozario has perfected the art of giving the best possible entertainment to Mangaloreans all over the world. There are few other entertainments in Konkani that can surpass Mandd Sobhann in offering the "best" entertainment with a perfect blend of music, culture and tradition.
Over the years, Mandd Sobhann has never disappointed Konkani buffs anywhere. Once again this was proved true at Makkala Mantapa in the SMS College premises at Brahmavar during the 183 Baila Show. The 'Sona Baila Show' began with a bang with the foot-tapping number 'Punve Chandne' sung by none other than Prakash D'Souza, perhaps the numero uno singer in Konkani right now. The chubby-bubbly members of Naach Sobhann, the only Konkani dance troupe entertained audience with their wonderful dance. The song was a perfect beginning to what was to follow. Eric Ozario and Joyce Ozario were on the stage immediately for the next number, 'Festa Santek Yago Chedva', a song that has fans in each nook and corner of the world.
Earlier the much-awaited programme began at 7 pm with Valerian Crasta welcoming the gathering. Without any further delay the organizers MGOCSM moved on to the next but very important programme of honouring three persons who have contributed immensely to the cause of Konkani.
Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Eric Ozario who needs no introduction was honoured by Fr Rambhan James Scaria, the parish priest of St Mary's Syrian Orthodox Church Brahmavar. Priya Lewis introduced Eric Ozario to the gathering highlighting a few of his numerous achievements.
Stephen Quadros Permude is another Konkani stalwart who has contributed in various ways to the growth of language. Among all his contributions to Konkani, his compiling of English-Konkani dictionary in Kannada script which was recently published by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will be counted and remembered for long. He was introduced to the gathering by Cyprian Crasta. He was honoured by Fr David Crasta, Fr Lawrence D'Souza and Fr Rambhan James Scaria.
Stany Rodrigues may not be a familiar name to many. But if his achievements are highlighted duly then no would dispute that he is no less to any other Konkani activist. He is surely a familiar name in the vicinity. A lecturer by profession, he is a poet and musician by vocation and passion. He has already penned many Konkani poems. He has also brought out a Konkani devotional musical album "Divo Mogacho". He was introduced to the gathering by Veena D'Souza and was honoured by Simon D'Silva, secretary of OSC Education Trust.
