Mangalore: Speech Contest for Gavel Clubs Brings out Oratorial Skills of Youth

    Mangalore, Apr 9: A speech contest for the school and college-going youngsters was sponsored by Max Rasquinha of Houston, USA and the International Orientation Center, Mangalore in the Eric Mathias auditorium of the IT Blcok of St Aloysius College on Monday, April 9 evening.

    The programme began with the welcome given by S Sudhir, the conference chairman  of the annual contest.

    Laxmi Shenoy, the contest chairperson read out the  details of the competition.  Dylan Rebello was the Toast master and conducted the proceedings of the contest. 

    Krishnaprasad of Corporation Bank was the chief judge. Six judges evaluated the competitors' performance. Smita D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks.

    This was the first Annual Gavelliers Speech Contest. Similar contests will be held on regular basis every year.

    The guest of the day was Walter D’Souza, founder and editor in chief of www.daijiworld.com, now chairman of Daijiworld Media Private Ltd.

    Seven contestants each took part in the two categories of Prepared speech contest and Impromptu speech.

    The first place winners of the contest will be sponsored a free trip to Ovation – 2007 to be held at New Delhi .

    The winners of the Prepared speech contest are :

    First place winner -  Manjusha Hebbar from Rostrum Gavel club, St Agnes college.
    Second place winner – Aditya A from St Aloysius Gavel Club, St Aloysius College.
    Third place winner -  Pavithra Sujir Nayak from Mangalore Amateur Speakers Club, Mangalore.
     
    The winners of of the Impromptu speech contest are

    First Place winner – Somanna P H from Mangalore Amateurs Speakers Club
    Second place winner – Shilpi Roy from Roshini International Gavel Club, Roshini Nilaya
    Third place was shared by Ranjitha Rebello, AIBA Gavel Club, and  Simonia from Srinivas college of Management Gavel Club from Srinivas college. 

    The chief guest Walter D’Souza and Dr Paul Aquinas, Dean of Aloysius Institute of Business Administration, gave away the certificates to the winners.
