Dubai: Karnataka Sangha Sports Festival 2007

Karnataka Sangha, Dubai, UAE successfully organized  their annual event "SPORTS FESTIVAL - 2007" on 13th April to mark the Golden Jubilee Year of Karnatakostava.  This is the First time in Karnataka Sangha's history that such an event was held at the most prestigious Dubai Police Officers Club, supported by Mangalore Konkans.  Full day event was marked with some spectacular athletic events which was participated by a large number of athletes of all ages who registered mainly through Daijiworld.com.



One of the Firsts being a Marathon race open to all age group and sex had a huge response and surpassed the expectations of the organizers as well as the spectators.  First 3 places were won by the Male runners, Yogesh Kumar 1st, Abdul Lathif 2nd, Mohd Muneer 3rd, however, a number of female runners also completed 5 rounds to the Police Stadium.  Most impressive of all was some tiny tots completed 3 rounds to the Stadium and were awarded with a trophy and certificate for their efforts.



Wheel Barrow was another popular event among the crowd this time also saw a huge response from the ladies participation.
 
Four Gents and two ladies teams fought out at the Tug of War, another well-liked sports event which pull the crowd to their feet holding their nerves to see who is the strongest of them all.






During mid day a spectacular opening ceremony took place with participating athletes leading a march past to the tune of drill music and lit up torch.  President C. R. Shetty then lit up the torch to mark the opening ceremony. Albert Rodrigues and Agnel Fernandes of Mangalore Konkans released the Tri colour balloons to mark the occasion. 





This Sports event was smoothly anchored by General Secretary, John Monteiro, Sports Secretary Daya Kirodian, Wadekar and all the Executive Committe and Sub Committee members.
