Mangalore, Apr 17: The city was treated to another of monsoon's trailer showers on late Monday night as heavy lightning struck and thundershowers, lasting less than hour, soaked the city.

Temperatures are down, providing a short relief to citizens from unbearable heat and humidity.

Workers at sites like construction appeared to be worst hit in last week's torrid spell of weather.

The skies opened up suddenly around 11-15 pm on Monday for about three-quarters of an hour and the roads were all inundated with water in a short while. It was kind of an action replay of last Saturday's brief encounter, which too lasted less than an hour.

Early Tuesday morning, pools and puddles could be seen on the roads here and there. Traffic was forced to move at a slower pace because of the stationary water.

Again, there are fears that unless showers grace for a few days continuously, the heat could worsen and water scarcity might be aggravated.

Yet, it was a small mercy that the atmosphere has cooled down to some extent, providing much-needed relief from the hot sun.

On the downside, there were reports of some loss, with some houses getting damaged and roofs coming crashing, in areas like Jeppu. The exact loss is yet to be assessed.
