A new pathway to study at Ivy League varsities

New Delhi June 9 (IANS): American Honors on Tuesday launched a 2 2 pathway programme in India to help students with motivation enter into community colleges with a pathway to leading US universities and pursue degree programmes of their choice.

American Honors, offered by Quad Learning and leading community colleges, is a two-year selective honors programme at public-funded US community colleges and is designed to affordably serve students of high motivation and ability.

"After adjusting to the US and receiving a strong educational foundation in their first two years, students then transfer to one of the top colleges/universities in the US for their final two years of the degree programme," a statement said.

“It is a pleasure for us to enter the Indian education market and help students seeking a top American undergraduate degree with our holistic support services," American Honors Chief Academic Officer David Finegold said.

“With rapidly growing demand for graduates, it is important to produce students who have had a high quality education in fast emerging areas. However, many students miss out on the opportunity as they are unable to get into top US universities on their own and/or lack the financial resources to attend. We offer a new program that provides a better and more affordable path to help each student find and succeed at the best fit college for them,” Finegold added.

The American Honors programme is spread around the US – from the ever vibrant New Jersey, to sublime climate of Texas to relaxed nature-inspired Seattle among others. It provides 360 degree support and one-on-one advising sessions for prospective students, beginning from enrolment through transfer, personalized guidance on everything from the degree plan and course selection to choice of school, financial aid, and scholarships.

Small and interactive seminar-style classes help students understand the engaging honors curriculum in an environment that makes it far easier to connect with professors and peers than traditional large lectures. Each honors class is capped at a maximum of 25 students, with many even smaller, and with no more than a few hundred honors students at each campus one can really get to know fellow students from the US and around the world.

Expected English language proficiency scores: IELTS 6.0 , TOEFL iBT 71 , ITEP 4.5 ,
PTE 54 .

In 2014, the number of Indian students studying in the US shot up 28 percent to 134,292, comprising the second largest foreign student body in America after China, according to a report by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement of the Department of Homeland Security in 2014. A majority of about 65 percent were studying engineering, computer science, and information technology.

Among the Indian students, the majority comes from Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi, Pune and Kolkata in descending order. As reported for the year 2014 the value is: Hyderabad-26,220, Mumbai-17,294, Chennai-9,141, Bangalore-8,835, Delhi-8,728, Pune-5,551 & Kolkata 3,881.
