Mangalore: Dr Akhter Husain's Art and Photography Exhibition Opens

Mangalore, Apr 21: ‘Pigments and Pixels’, an exhibition of paintings of widely-known orthodontist from Mangalore Dr Akhter Hussain opened in the Empire Mall on Mahatma Gandhi Road in the city on Saturday, April 21 evening.

The four-day exhibition was inaugurated by international art promoter Dawn Merek. It features a highly creative, eye-catching blend of colour paintings and occasional computer-aided enhancement. B Ahmed Hajee Mohiuddin, founder of the BA group and noted educationist and philanthropist, was among the dignitaries present.


Earlier, at a press conference, environmentalist S A Husain said that this would be the first art exhibition organized by this artist in Mangalore. Dr Akhter has started in this field as a photographer along with box camera. He is also a medical photographer, S A Husain said.

Dr Akther said that he had been working for 20 years to create these art forms, which are theme-based like flowing waters, shell shape, India and Indian culture, medical graphics, he informed.

Well-known artist Ganesh Somayaji was present at the press conference.

Dr Husain from his childhood had honed his skills under the guidance of Bolar Ghulam Mohamed (BGM in short for art-lovers and his myriad of disciples).

Later on Dr Husain engaged himself with the world of art and he has been just the best in whatever he has done. 

He has been bestowed with a number of awards and distinction including a fellowship of the Royal Society of the Photography in London.  He has also published a number of articles on photography in various internationally-renowned magazines.
