Mangalore: In Height Shortfall, It's Nothing Short of a Blissful Match

  • Big Joy comes in a ‘Small’ Package for this unique couple

Mangalore / Udupi, Apr 21: It is often said that marriages are made in heaven but they are struck on earth.  Marriage is not so much about getting the perfect spouse, but it is more about achieving perfection with the one we get, says a known writer.

These days not only the entire country but even the globe is abuzz with only one marriage.  It is “the marriage of the year” and is said to be the union of ‘the first son of Bollywood and the first woman of most men’s hearts.’  No one and nothing has managed to get as much space and focus as has been given to ‘Abhi' and 'Ash’.

But back in our own yard, a marriage that took place a day before Aish-Abhi’s has caught the attention of quite a few and media too has given enough coverage.  This marriage is not surely of celebrities. But it is surely a marriage of two persons who have been in toto made for each other in every way.

The man is Joseph and she is Shobha.  But what is special about them is that they are the perfect couple.  While Joseph is only 3 feet in height, his spouse Shobha only a quarter foot shorter.

Joseph D’Souza (31) was born in a devout Syrian Catholic family of Kolalgiri near Udupi.  He is the youngest son of Celestine and the late Mathias D’Souza.  He has 3 elder brothers and 2 sisters.  One of his brothers Hilary is well settled in Canada while the other brother Donald works in Mumbai.  Paul, another brother of his, looks after the family house.  His both sisters are married and well settled. He could study only up to class 5, and is now working in a hotel.

As his brother Paul said, the family had no other worry than a search for a perfect spouse for Joseph.  Even the latter had dreams of a spouse but never knew when it would be realized.  They all knew that it was not so easy, merely because of the height shortfall.  But their neigbour Marcus came as a saviour.

Marcus found the right bride for Joseph at Kuppepadav in Mangalore.  Shobha who stands just a quarter foot shorter than Joseph too was going through a similar predicament since she too was a dwarf.  Aged 29 years and having studied up to class 3, she did not find it easy to get a perfect match. But destiny took its own course. So, when the idea was floated, neither she nor her family had any hesitation whatsoever to give a nod to the proposal from Joseph’s family.

It was a marriage of a rare kind and they tied the knot on Thursday April 19 in St Anthony’s Church, Ammunje near Kolalgiri.

Shobha is ecstatic about the marriage.  Speaking to Daijiworld, she said, “I was dreaming of my perfect partner all this while.  Now my dream has come true.”  On the other hand,  Joseph too has similar feelings but feels too shy to express himself.

All those who attended the marriage had only one comment to make, that is, “God would not have created a better partner to either of them.”

"It is indeed right," echoed a clergy who has known Shobha for long. "God might have taken special care while creating them and that is why they are so special."

Having found their hearts’ desire, both Joseph and Shobha are now dreaming of a long and happy married life.

Here's wishing all that is perfect and best to this most perfect and beautiful couple.
