New Delhi, June 11 (IANS): The government on Thursday said that operations have been restored at the Kozhikode airport, a day after a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) trooper was killed during a scuffle within its premises.

"As of now, full normalcy has been restored, so far as the operations at Calicut (Kozhikode) airport are concerned," the civil aviation ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, five flights were diverted during the early morning hours of Thursday from the airport as a result of the incident.

"Normalcy at the airport was restored by 2.15 a.m. and flight operations commenced by 6.20 a.m.," the ministry said.

"Senior officers from the ministry and security directorate have been rushed to the site to take full control of the situation. The matter is being looked into," the statement added.

On Wednesday, around 9.30 p.m., an altercation broke-out between a CISF personnel on duty at the operation’s gate and a fire department employee.

In the ensuing scuffle, a firearm belonging to a CISF personnel went-off killing a head constable.

The scuffle continued for some time and as a precaution five flights were diverted.
