Bantwal, Apr 23: With the first heavy showers that lashed through parts of districts on Saturday April 21 and Sunday April 22, a small bridge near Farangipet here is on the verge of collapsing.

Owing to landslide on one side of the bridge, the small bridge on National Highway 48 near the Arkula Cross at Farangipet has spelt doom for it.  Though vehicular movement has not yet been completely stopped, locals said that it might be blocked at any time owing to the present situation.

Even a slight rain in the coming days may prove very dangerous.  If the bridge collapses, it will be the closure of main link between the Mangalore and Beltangady, Bantwal or even to Bangalore.

Unless the concerned department and authorities undertake some urgent repair works, days are not far before the National Highway 48 is virtually closed down for any vehicular movement between Mangalore and Bantwal, Beltangady, Puttur taluks.
